Healing in SO many ways🙏 Once you admit you have a problem, It takes lots of new systems to create a better life!

After surgery, although I am focusing on recovery, I also have responsibilities and things I am building within my business that need attention. Yet, what I have found over this past week as my brain has been processing all I have been though, is that my piece of paper with a tentative list of things to do, is NOT cutting it.

As a woman with undiagnosed ADHD, I need a formal visual signal that is reliable. A designated place where I can put my top 5 action items for the day and start there.

Ladies, Are your legs shaped like mine?

Do you find it difficult to see the definition of your muscles regardless of how much you workout?

Do your legs feel heavy and sluggish?

Regardless of how long you have been away, you can always find comfort in being with your people.🙏

In today’s world, sometimes we find our people via online interactions. Those who have the same experiences as we do, others who struggle with the same concerns we have, the invisible illnesses that so many of us share and the sense of style or similar body shape that unites us often take on very meaningful connections.

I’ve been spending time IRL with people I LOVE and have a long history with but I also got to spend time IRL with Lipedema Ladies who I have a special connection to because we share all the trials and tribulations this disease Lipedema brings. We have so many common threads yet I find that my besties are navigating invisible health challenges, too and it makes me realize that Women’s Health Matters are all too often overlooked.

For a while, I have been working toward a project that will bring so many of us together. I know that IRL(even if it starts out virtually within a group setting with cameras on is a great start to developing stronger IRL threads that draw us together as Women who truly need to share experiences with other Women to Thrive.🙏

Capitol Hill advocacy for Asthma & Allergy Network was an extremely encouraging day. Speaking with legislators about 5 Bills necessary to protect our Allergy Community was a day that I was able to lend my voice as both a patient and parent of a child with allergies.

Better late than never🙏

We enjoyed our EASTER celebrations. We went to church and sat in the front row. Don’t know the last time I sat in the front row at church although I do prefer to sit up front at any gathering than further back. But, I realized that I missed out on seeing everything that was going on behind me ( which is really funny if you know me cause I REALLY like to people watch and say hi to friends.) We spent the afternoon with family and had a lovely time just sharing life. I made a crustless ham and Gouda quiche to bring for everyone to share and also ensured I had food I could eat that was free from my 26 food allergens. I was really hoping those would have been dissipated by now with the weightloss, improved health and glp1 improving so many internal systems but not yet.

I made it through the 40 days of lent without any processed foods(beyond my daily protein drink and protein bar) and grains and my scale dropped by 10 lbs. On Easter, I enjoyed a slice of @katzglutenfree marble loaf for breakfast and @katzglutenfree chocolate zucchini muffin with my lunch. The gluten free chocolate zucchini muffins are so easy to take with you cause they are individually wrapped👏 The marble loaf brings me right back to NYC and I just love the taste and texture.[ NoTE: I tagged them for you to shop directly on this post as part of the the new features being rolled out here on @instagram ]

May is National Asthma & Allergy , Mental Health AND Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD) Awareness Month and I am personally challenged by all three! 🌐

June is Lipedema and Mast Cell Disease Awareness Month and these are additional components along my fight against Obesity.💜

The battle against the disease of Obesity began when I was six and looked different in my dancing costume for my 1st recital. Likely, Lipedema was already rearing its presence which definitely affected my mental health and internalized weight bias and so the cycle began.💃

Today, I am proud to say I have been back in the game of implementing solutions that push back against the disease of obesity with medical intervention for the past 2 years and that has been transformative. I am back to 210 LBS down from my highest weight of
404 LBS in 2003, 22.5 yrs ago before my Rouen-Y gastric bypass bariatric surgery.🦋

I am hopeful after this past 6 months of a kind of plateau that my body has recalibrated and is ready to start another new chapter. I know my body had a great deal of stress to gonup against since September and I am so thankful that for the first time in my life, I DID NOT gain any weight as a result of a major life change when my son went off to college.🙏

Gotta admit, I did notice my knee expressing surprise so I went in real slow and steady so I could stay on the dance floor even though I was about 6 weeks out from being released from Physical Therapy.

This is what Obesity Care brings you. The ability to participate in life without thinking about obstacles is the freedom that comes with achieving your best self.

I had already been standing for about 12 hrs this day and had gotten 18,000 steps. I didn’t think twice about walking to a club about a mile away and back and stood there the whole time, too.

Style Tip for comfort, support and ease while traveling by car or plane:
A shorter Dress with sleeves
Compression
Slip on shoes
Limited Jewelry

I always chose a shorter dress in a comfy material with sleeves so I can stay warm and not have it touch the ground during bathroom trips. (Trips to the bathroom, too many layers and pat downs by airport security are reasons I choose dresses instead of pants when traveling.) I wear 15-20mmhz type medical grade compression to have just enough compression but not too much to keep swelling at bay. Shoes are always slip one flats so I can navigate my route easily and take off my shoes quickly if necessary.
Limited jewelry makes it easy to get through security, as well.

Are you like me with sensitivities to just about everything, ladies???

My latest concerns are artificial sweeteners(I already know I’m allergic to Stevia), citric acid (often is still make from mold and is in just about everything processed), potato starch (did you know this is even in shredded cheese)?! And, I usually only use olive oil but I realized seed oils may be in prepared protein drinks or bars.

So, yesterday I decided to make my own and it ended up tasting really good cold and blended with ice, too. Hot wasn’t what I was hoping for but I haven’t found the exact setting to get that to work yet. Stay tuned for more experimenting with that one.

Reach for the sky🌞

Today, during one of my livestreams I was asked if I stretch. Truthfully, not as often as I should but today I was inspired to do so because of the suggestion.

So, here we are. I’m now coming in with a reminder that gentle stretching does a body good but be sure to work with your body and not against it. Lean into what you can do and build from there. I’m a hypermobile gal on the hEDS (Ehlers Danlos) spectrum and I am very cautious when it comes to stretching so I try to just let me body land where it wants to without trying to push it further. Injury prevention is always my main focus.

The lymphatic system is often burdened by the Lipedema nodules under the skin and some form of swelling can be present.
