My house is not immaculate, and there are usually toys and kid art around, but it never looks like a bomb went off. I’m pretty sure this is why… Two things: I set up a good system, and then I model. 1) I choose nice stuff to store our toys that’s large enough and fits in the rest of our home. None of those white plastic or melamine shelves that are too small for anything. 2) I give my kids a home where the grown-ups pick up. I don’t leave my clothes on the floor or chairs, so they’ve never seen anyone do that. I ask them to pick up their toys. (Sometimes I end up doing it, but still… Then they are used to a clean home.) That way, we never have to do a massive deep clean, it’s always just a little maintenance stuff. Step 1 is easier than step 2 if you’re struggling though, and it’s definitely a mindset thing… But even if you struggle with this, you can use your design brain to think of storage solutions that work for your home in the best case scenario and start there.
