Gooooood gravy my relationship with running has been a rocky one.

But lately we’ve been on real good terms ☀️ Idk what it is that keeps me interested in my runs but I have some suspicion:

1. This weather 😍if it’s a chilly Sunday morning or a sunny afternoon I can choose anytime of day to run and it’s pleasant. I’ll keep grateful for that while I can

2. DATA & PHYSIOLOGY 🤓I study my endurance like it’s my job (which as a sports dietitian, studying fitness , fueling & performance IS my job haha). I’ve been running real slow, keeping my heart rate down. I use a Polar HR monitor + my watch the Polar Ignite!

3. PROGRESS 🙌🏼❤️over the last 3 weeks I’ve noticed my mile time has gone DOWN despite heart rate staying the same.

4. I got new clothes 😂 Idk what it is about a sprucing you of the wardrobe but I’ll be damned that’s my favorite way to get excited about working out haha.

#ad Mid afternoon workout @chuzefitness ! The intention was legs , hence the bands, but the reality was prime cardio because what I need more was a mental clarity session.

Tonight we’re having 🍕 pizza & brownies for dinner. Yup! You read the right and YES YOU CAN live healthy and be fit af chowing down on your favorites.

This beautiful batch of walnut brownies was a breeze to make with @simplemills almond flour brownie mix - I added walnuts for extra nutrient density!

I even recorded a video to show how easy it is to make which helps me have more time to create other healthy items for dinner like a big vegetable salad and homemade dressing.

My top 5 fitness must haves!

1) Polar HR monitor - Having this guides my workouts so that I know exactly what intensity to train and recover at.
2) Stabilizing, supportive 👟 sneakers - since I mostly weight lift I like a flat shoe. I change it up on cardio days though!
3) FitBit - My stopwatch and time keeper, mostly . It has a heart rate monitor too but not as accurate.
4) Water bottle - my go to is my 48 fluid oz Nalgene but I linked a different one for keeping ice cold
5) My little notebook - to track my workouts and write down the nutrition for the day and other important details.

Post workout snackin on some hemp seeds 🙌🏼 definitely need something quick and convenient in between my workout classes so me energy stays UP and my hunger stays DOWN!

There really is no truly perfect post workout fuel, but there are post workout nutrition goals we should all hit :
1) Protein! Including protein post workout to repair those teeny tiny muscle tears will help you recover for next sesh!
2) Hydration! Nuts & seeds are really low water (high calorie dense!) so I make sure to drink a lot of water 💦
3) Satisfaction! Make sure you enjoy what you’re having! You don’t need to down a protein supplement or a plain chicken breast - unless that’s your thing! But don’t feel pressured to have to eat that . Keep that food stress low 🙌🏼

Internal motivation to is that feeling you get after a really great workout or that immense satisfiaction you get summiting a gorgeous Colorado peak! Seeking out that feeling is so important to keep your healthy happy lifestyle habits going.

Extneral motivation is the little rewards and outside “wins”. It’s usually a result! Continuing on with my gratitude day theme I am superbly grateful for Denver and especially the Denver fitness community!

Today I finished up my nutrition coaching & consulting side of things and shifted gears to fitness.

First made a stop at a gym in the Highlands to drop of some materials about my nutrition coaching services 🍎

Then headed to the gym to get my workout in! Just abs and some back to work on my pull up goal and burpees.... 🙃

Then it was work time and I can’t tell you how pumped I am coaching my group training class. They have gotten SO DANG STRONG 💪🏼 over the last year!!

Stop and smell the 🍌 s was the theme of the day after I had my nutrition coaching follow up this morning!

It was a tough day to be cheery with it being all gray and cold but I kept remember the bright yellow banana colored wall paper and that saying to stop and smell the bananas!

It’s cardio day 🙌🏼 am I really this excited? Not really. Not for the actual cardio but I am excited to see my heart rate during the session!

Doing cardio in my prime heart rate zone has been making a huge difference in my
Workouts and in my cardiovascular health and since I do like numbers 🤓 I can see them as objective information and I actually use it as motivation to do my cardio haha.

You gotta find what works for you! If heart rate training might perk ya up and get you to do cardio I linked the one I use in the photo! I also linked the outfit + sneakers and Fitbit.
